RTFM - Member Options
RTFM means “Read the Freaking Manual” and is a term used when you ask a question that the answer to is on this page and is also given to you when you join in your New Member letter. When you ask it over and over and do not seem to learn how to do whatever you are asking about.
When you get a reply that simply says RTFM... refer to this page or the New Member letter you received when you joined, and read it!
The AGCP is managed and operated by Roy Nix and the Nix Family. We have a Printing Business that provides our income and pays the bills. We have been in business in Columbus, GA nearly 30 years. We also operate McNix Golf that is about 6 years old. The Nix family is paid out of the Printing Business and the Golf business, not out of AGCP. The AGCP operates our of the Golf Shop, the Printing Business and our office at home for now. We do this while we attempt to build the AGCP into a First Class World Wide Organization.
It is estimated that for the AGCP to function as it should as a business organization the AGCP needs to have approximately $350,000 per year in annual income. That would pay for rent on office space, employees salaries, and other expenses that businesses have. That figure is for operating the business, and does not include any National Advertising we hope to provide eventually.
With an annual membership of less than 140 members in 2008, and at $244.00 to renew in 2009 the AGCP receives less than 10% of the revenue needed to operate the AGCP as it should be operated from member dues. For this reason we ask members who pay only about 10% of the operating costs of the AGCP to do a little of the work for us so that the Nix Family can earn a living from our other businesses. McNix Golf has been closed since July after Tom Wishon endorsed the AGCP as the best place for clubmakers to invest to build a clubmakers organization. We simply do not have the staff to answer the same question over and over and over because you do not read the information provided for you. For the AGCP to succeed it is going to require all members to do their share and become a staff members as well as be a member.
If you have a question, rather than send it to Roy or call the office, try posting your question to the members and let them help you figure it out. We get literally thousands of E-mails each week and dozens of phone calls each day and many of them are asking questions that you can get the answers to by reading this page or asking another member. We need your help to allow us to operate our business so we can pay the bills while we build the AGCP.-Thanks!
As an AGCP member you will have a number of options for communicating with your fellow members as well as a number of web site references for obtaining information about the AGCP and about clubfitting & clubmaking.
Googlegroups is one of our main web sites. You will be given access to Googlegroups once you have paid your dues. You will have access to Googlegroups as long as your dues are current. If you attempt to login at Googlegroups and it says you have to be a member to view this site, LOGIN again because if you do not use the site for a time Google will automatically log you off the site. If you do not see your Email address in the upper right hand corner of the screen you are not logged in. It is important that you keep your Googlegroups login information handy, your Email address and password.
The Googlegroups web site has 5 areas you need to explore
- Home
- Discussions
- Members
- Pages
- Files

|
Home is the main page with an introductory letter that explains most of what you are reading here but actually has the passwords and links to all the member only sites available. Discussions is the searchable archive of all Email ever posted on Googlegroups. From the inception of Googlegroups for AGCP all discussions are saved and they are searchable. Members is the list of AGCP members where you need to go as soon as possible and enter your personal information so that other members know who you are and how to find you. It is a member directory but it is completely voluntary and up to you to fill in. AGCP does not fill in the information for you. Pages is a section of Documents that have been published by and for AGCP members. Some very interesting and educational documents here. Files contains all the files that have been donated to the AGCP by it’s members for publication on the web site for the use of other members. This has files from Dana Upshaw, Jerry Hoefling, Keith Chatham and others explaining how they set up their fitting systems, how that do their fittings, how to profile wood shafts, how to flex sort iron shafts, and much, much more.
The AGCP also has two alternate web sites that are for members only. You will find information about these in the letter you receive when you join and listed on the Home Page of Googlegroups.
The Direct communications forums are listed below:
1. AGCP Googlegroups Email Forum - The Email forum has 4 selections for receiving and sending mail to your fellow members, or 4 subscription types if you will.
- No Email - Read the messages on the web
- Email - Send each message as it arrives
- Abridged Email - Send a summary of list activity each day
- Digest Email - Send all new messages in a single daily Email.

There are 3 management options for Googlegroups mail if needed.

- Member’s posts are moderated

When you join the AGCP your membership will automatically be set up for “Email” where you will be sent each message as it arrives, and for Default Group Policy and you are allowed to post.
If the Email volume is too much you should login at Googlegroups, find your Email address and change your subscription to one of the other options. You do not need my help to do this. http://agcpgolf.com/Store/html/agcp_certification_fees.html
The management options will only be exercised if and when you abuse AGCP policies for posting. You will be warned before any of these options are enforced unless your violation is such that it requires immediate action.
To login at Googlegroups you will need to register at Googlegroups. When you register you can also sign up for a Google Gmail account and use Gmail for your mailbox for AGCP.
To login at AGCP Googlegroups use this link

List Policy is simple:
- Please abide by the Golden Rule and treat other members as you wish to be treated.
- Please include a signature by putting your name, Shop Name, City, State and Email address on your posting so that other member know who is writing to them.
- Keep list postings on topic about Clubfitting, Clubmaking, and the business of Clubfitting and clubmaking.
- Do not post virus warnings, jokes, politics, sports information or other topics that do not apply to clubfitting, clubmaking and the business of clubfitting and clubmaking.
- Please keep the discourse civil and as if you were in mixed company as we have had female members in the past.
- There are no dumb questions. Ask any question you want as long as it if about clubfitting, clubmaking or the business of clubfitting and clubmaking.
- Keep your replies respectful and do not be rude to any fellow member. No put downs, not flames and no smart aleck remarks.
- Remember that some members are not skilled typists and do not criticize them.
- Remember that some members have dial up connections to the internet and do not post overly large pictures too often.
- Remember that some members may have very small mailboxes and do not post simply Thank you notes to each member that responds to you. Wait until the thread runs it’s course and post one Thank you to all who answered. We automatically assume that you are thankful when we post and do not need a thank you. If you must than everyone please do it in a private Email directly to them and not on the list.

From time to time you may for some reason get kicked off of Googlegroups for AGCP and the next time you try to login you will see a message that says you must be a member to view this group. No need to write me, simply login again and all will be fine. For this reason it is a good idea to save your login information so you can login in again if you need to.
2. AGCP Bulletin Board Forum - When you join you will be registered with the Bulletin Board and sent an automatic Email from the Bulletin Board with your password and login information. Please save this Email information with your password in case you need it later to sign in again.
The Bulletin Board has 2 sections, one for members and one for the public. The member section also has our sponsors registered so that we can communicate with them. To gain access to the Member Forums you must login. You can tell if yo are logged in if you see your name at the top of the page and if the login box says log out.
Please be careful and read the Board you are on to be sure if you are posting in a Members Section or a Public Section.
The Bulletin Board is good for posting Polls or posting data you might want to refer to from time to time.
It is also a good place to advertise on your web site for your customers to come and seek information and exchange ideas on the Public section about fitting. If you do this, let us know so we can look for your customers and help you by supporting you.
3. AGCP Member Email Bulletins - From time to time there will be information that pertains to all members and not all members read all E-mails all the time a special Email list is available to send out these messages. The will come directly from Roy Nix and when you reply your reply will go directly to him. This list is used when everyone needs to receive the note but it may not apply to all and only those who it applies to need reply so we do not clutter everyone’s mail box with the replies.
4. Direct Communications from member to member - If you receive your Email on your computer rather than on an Internet web site each Email should have a header with the posters Email address listed in header. You can Email directly to that member by copying that Email address and putting it in your too box. Or, you might be able to click on the active link and a new Email box will open. Also each member should have a signature on all of their Google posting and you can get their address from their signature.
5. Membership Directory - Beginning in 2009 for the first time a membership directory will be issued to all members shortly after January 1st. We are compiling all contact information for all members and will send it out in PDF form as soon as we complete it.
6. Go To Meeting Video Conferencing - We are also testing Go To Meeting Video Conferencing Software and exploring the possibilities for using it for more and better communications and for education opportunities. This will not be a free service, but we have not decided how to charge for it yet. We may have a yearly fee or offer it on a per use basis. More on this as we figure it out.
