Hi There Folks:

I've just picked up a few Wishon Series 5 steel iron shafts for a couple of demo's I'm doing up. I haven't built with this shaft before, but I've heard some reasonable things about it. I'd be interested in people's feedback on how they find it. I'm particularly intersted in whether anyone finds it comparable to any True Temper products, (True temper makes it), and whether it is different from the original Royal Precision made Series 5's. I have my preliminary opinions on the subject, having examined and frequency tested the shafts, adn compared it wit TT's in stock, but I'd like to get other people's feedback.

Thanks,

Sean Baines

Sean, FYI.....I just bought some of the Wishon super lite shafts and the regular Wishon steel shafts....to make FAZ FIT shafts of varied flexes.  Will let you know how this works out.

Thanks Tony. FYI, I believe Wishon has switched to FST as a manufacturer. As I'm impressed by what I' ve haerd about FST, and intrigued to learn more, I'm looking forward to what you find out.

Any updates on the new shafts? the FST version?

In January I built my son a set of 969s, recently had a client in from California and we played golf, since he didn't want to lug his own set I let him use my sons, he loved the set so much he wants me to build him a set. Only trouble is these are the old series 5, rp version.
I've ordered a set of fst pro115s for the set, reg flex, series 5 were regular also. I know the fsts are a little lighter and the balance point is a little more towards the grip end.
I had to see what all the fuss was about so lately I've been playing my son's set, I had done 1/4" length spacing (based on a standard 7), progressive swingweight (1/3 point per club), shafts spined and aligned down target line, prosoft inserts, my son had wanted on winn grips, I was reluctant because of the cost (I like the $1.35 grips), but went for them since it was a Christmas present, now I'm really glad because between them and the prosoft inserts, added to the 969 game improvement head, they feel solid as can be with very little vibration.
What shocked me about the heads is the ease with which you can work the ball, never tried a gi head that didn't want to go absolutely straight and was reluctant to fade or draw, but these can really be worked and still be forgiving on mishits.
Any advise as to what to expect from the change in shafts and how I might get the fst's to play like the old series 5 would be greatly appreciated.

Mark:

Unfoprtunately I can't provide any insights on either of those versions of the Series 5's, as I never got to use the old ones, and haven't tried the new ones yet. The TT's that came in between the old RP's and the new FST shafts were Dynalites with a different name. I'm guessing that the new ones are going to be basically FST 115's or smoething like, but how that will compare with the old Series 5's, I don't know. We need someone with profile data here. I'll ask around, and post back to you here, or get ahold of you through thw Wishon Forum where I know you from.

Are you looking for profile data or opinions?.

I have just profiled a dozen of the R flex, and have some S flex's that I have not profiled yet.

Profile data would be a great start. We can then compare to profiles of the old Series 5's to see what, if any  differences we are dealing with. You wouldn't happen to have balance point too, would you?

I will upload the shaft profile for the Wishon Series 5 steel, probably tomorrow.

I profile using the GolfSmith auditor frequency machine, using the same profiling method the Jerry uses for wood shafts, with the exception of not taking the 41" measurement. I also find the spine and have the NBP pointing up (you twang up and down on the Golfsmith frequency machine).

I also have the numbers for the shafts using Keith Chatham/Bill Totten method at the 15", 25", and 35" points.

Sean,

here is the profile for shafts. I have included all the individual shafts instead of the average to give you a feel of the consistency.

As I mention, before profiling I have found the spine and have placed the NBP in the same direction as the twang. My PCS Equalizer calibration rod is 309 cpm, and my GolfSmith frequency meter measures it at 309.
