As you read an article or watch a video you are only learning a small part of all the elements that go into hitting your drives consistently in the fairway with the greatest possible distance. Angle of Attach – Trackman Says…

Attack Angle is the direction the club head is moving (up or down) at impact.

What is angle of attack

Shots hit off the ground should have a negative attack angle in order to create “ball first” contact. However, golfers with slower club speeds should be careful not to hit too much down (negative attack angle) with their irons. This will affect the golfer’s potential distance.

To maximize distance with your driver, hitting up on the ball (positive attack angle) is a must. The driver’s loft should be chosen so that it complements the golfer’s attack angle. Having a positive attack angle does not guarantee maximum distance. The fit of the club is also an essential piece of the puzzle.

Spin Axis

Relates to face angle and club path in the golf swing. Commonly referred to as back spin or side spin. How the ball spins on it’s axis will determine both horizontal and vertical direction of the golf shot as well as how the ball curves in flight. Using the definition of axis as (the imaginary straight line that something (such as the Earth) turns around) if you can visualize a straight line going through a golf ball you have the axis. How that axis is tilted will determine what is commonly referred to as the backspin and side spin on the ball. Your shot shape will be determined by this spin axis. See more in the video below.
